Impacts of Climate Change on the Health of Outdoor Workers in Urban Asia

On 21 May 2025, the SocialLife Research Institute, our local project partner, convened community organisations to select beneficiaries for a pioneering programme providing 100 free health insurance cards to vulnerable outdoor workers. Informed by research and driven by compassion, the initiative—coordinated with the Tình Thân Fund and supported by 124 donors—aims to address health inequalities among street vendors, waste collectors, lottery ticket sellers, and others exposed daily to extreme weather and unsafe conditions.
With over 150 applications received, the programme has drawn strong public engagement and marks a vital step toward more inclusive healthcare access. Distribution will be completed by June 2025.
Disadvantaged by precarious work and increasingly vulnerable under climate change, outdoor workers face extraordinary health risks. This initiative not only reduces the financial burden of medical care but also helps raise awareness and public support for a more equitable healthcare system that meets the urgent needs of informal workers. Planning for an expanded second round of health insurance distribution is already underway.
